Why Is BMI Important?
A BMI of 30 or more is considered obese which increases your risk for serious
health issues. Examples of chronic health conditions related to obesity are type 2 diabetes,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease,
osteoarthritis, respiratory problems, and endometrial, breast, prostate and colon cancer.
Conditions associated with being obese are the second-leading cause of
preventable death in the U.S.

For many children, a changing BMI is not uncommon. The relationship between
a child's height and weight will fluctuate depending on age and gender. However, an above
normal weight may indicate a need to modify nutrition and physical activity patterns.
Some children with weight-related health issues may need to lose weight under
medical supervision. Learn more about the 20/20 Kids program
